The Director of People Safety is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety programs and policies to ensure the well-being of employees. This role involves developing strategies to prevent workplace injuries, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and fostering a culture of safety within the organization.
Key Essential Functions/Duties:
Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
Investigate workplace accidents and incidents and implement corrective actions.
Provide training and education to employees on safety practices and procedures.
Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety into all aspects of operations.
Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities and incidents.
Lead the development of emergency response plans and procedures.
Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and external safety audits.
Compliance and Safety Program Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
Develop and maintain safety documentation and records.
Implement and oversee workers' compensation programs.
Coordinate with legal and HR departments on safety-related issues.
Stay updated on changes in safety regulations and best practices.
Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in safety management or a related role.
Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Ability to analyze data and develop actionable safety strategies.
Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST).
Experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.
Knowledge of ergonomic principles and practices.
