Position Summary
Kellogg Community College is recruiting for a dynamic, highly motivated individual with strong teaching and leadership skills to assume the role of temporary faculty for the Welding and Machining Programs in Hastings, Michigan and potentially other instructional locations in KCC's service region.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provide instruction in the lab/shop setting,
• Maintain current and relevant curriculum content, design and delivery, and
• Actively participate to assure continued program quality standards and program effectiveness benchmarks are met that include, but are not limited, to student enrollment and completion.
In addition to key responsibilities, the candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the community college role in the educational continuum, as well as needs for the student population we serve. The candidate will be expected to participate in recruiting activities to increase the student population across all locations within the service region. A holistic and forward-thinking approach with a keen ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships, strategically think and successfully implement change are requirements of the person who will assume this temporary faculty role for the College.
This is a full-time temporary faculty position reporting to the Executive Director, Regional Manufacturing Technology Center (RMTC), Industrial Trades Education and Workforce Solutions. This assignment is for one academic year, primarily providing instruction at Hastings High School during the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters.
Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed in a manufacturing training center which may have loud noises, temperature changes, atmospheric conditions such as odors, dust, and gases and operating machinery. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required; such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, climbing, grasping, pushing pulling, reaching, and lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (50 - 75 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity such as seeing or talking. Occasional close visual acuity may be necessary for inspection of welds. Must meet reasonable deadlines, standards for accuracy and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.
Minimum Qualifications
• Machining: Associate degree in Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Machining Technology, and at least three (3+) years of non-teaching work experience
• Welding:
• Bachelor's degree in Metals Science (Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Composite Science) or
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or
• Bachelor's degree in Art (Sculpture or Studio Art) or
• Associate degree in Welding Technology and at least three (3+) years of non-teaching work experience
• Experience with the set-up and operation of a broad variety of welding and fabrication equipment.
• Experience with various types of welding, such as: soldering, brazing, cast iron welding, oxyacetylene welding and cutting, plasma cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux core arc welding.
• Demonstrated competence with mathematics, metrology, metallurgy, blueprint reading, and welding symbols.
• Ability to set-up and operate a broad variety of manual machine tools.
• Experience with CNC operation, set-up, and programming for Lathes and Mills.
• Evidence of proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Evidence of successfully working with a diverse population.

Job Duties
Essential Function: INSTRUCTION
Description:
• Provide instruction in individualized learning within an on-site dual-enrolled and/or flexible schedule format according to the policies and practices of Kellogg Community College (KCC).
• Coordinate lab activities with didactic content to provide a rich learning experience.
• Submit student grades and course records according to determined college policies and deadlines.
• Supervise students as they participate in lab.
Essential Function: RECRUITMENT, RETENTION AND COMPLETION
Description:
• Reach out to advise, mentor and remediate students in need to encourage retention and completion.
• Assist in new student orientations.
• Develop strategies intended to improve program access, student success, cost efficiency, and Perkins Core Performance Indicators.
• Commitment to the advancement of outcomes related to historically underrepresented populations in the Welding and Machining program areas.
Essential Function: CURRICULUM & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Description:
• Develop curriculum and prepare course materials in Welding and Machining in accordance with accreditation and best practices.
• Determine course outcomes and develop learning activities and assessments.
• Engage regularly with employers in the field of Welding and Machining, and as emerging related industries to ensure that current and relevant curriculum necessary for the contemporary workforce is maintained.
• Active participation in syllabi review and uploading through WIDS.
• Complete assessment responsibilities as it relates to accreditation standards outlined by Kellogg Community College.
• Participate in institutional professional development training including but not limited to online teaching/learning and instructional design/delivery.
