American Battery Solutions has a full-time opening for a Service Methods and Tools Engineer in Lake Orion, Michigan.\n\nJob Summary\n\nThe Service Methods and Tools Engineer serves as a key contributor within the Service and Warranty department. This role is responsible for the design, development, and deployment of advanced diagnostic tools and methodologies to support field troubleshooting and the detection of failures in high-voltage battery packs. As the Service Methods and Tools Engineer, this role enables effective root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions in the field, playing a critical role in reducing warranty costs and improving overall service efficiency.\n\nResponsibilities\n\n * Develop diagnostic software and hardware tools to support field service engineers in detecting, analyzing, and reporting battery pack failures.\n * Interface with Battery Management Systems (BMS), CAN bus protocols, and field telemetry to extract performance data and identify failure signatures and operational trends.\n * Responsible for developing algorithms and test procedures to detect early indicators of degradation or faults within battery modules, cells, cooling systems, and electronic subsystems.\n * Ensure compatibility of diagnostic and service tools with existing service platforms and vehicle communication interfaces, including OBD- II and proprietary systems.\n * Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, R&D, and Field Service teams to ensure tool development is aligned with product design specifications, service requirements, and warranty data insights.\n * Support the training of field personnel in the use of diagnostic tools. Develop and maintain clear, concise technical documentation and troubleshooting guides to aid in field operations\n * Responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of deployed tools and incorporating field feedback to improve usability, accuracy, and reliability.\n * Adhere to federal and state regulations.\n * Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.\n * Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.\n * Predictable and reliable attendance.\n\nPosition Qualifications\n\n * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.\n * Master's degree in a related field preferred.\n * Minimum of three (3) years of experience in diagnostics, methods engineering, or service engineering in the automotive or energy storage sector.\n * Solid understanding of lithium-ion battery systems, BMS architecture, and failure modes.\n * Proficiency with embedded systems diagnostics, CANalyzer/CANoe, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.\n * Experience with diagnostic standards (UDS, OBD-II) and field tool deployment practices.\n * Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.\n * Familiarity with service tools such as Vector, ETAS, or proprietary OEM service software.\n * Hands-on experience with high-voltage safety protocols and failure mode effect analysis (FMEA).\n * Experience working with cloud-based diagnostic solutions or remote Over-the-Air (OTA) troubleshooting platforms.\n\nKey Competencies\n\n * Communications: Exchanges thoughts, feelings, and information effectively.\n * Continual Improvement: Displays a consistent orientation toward producing the highest quality products or services, while keeping a focus on sustainability.
