Reporting to the Manager of Facility Services & Public Safety, this full-time regular support staff role works year-round Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed by the department or College.
Position Summary
The Shipping and Receiving Clerk facilitates the day-to-day operations of shipping, receiving, and mailroom services to the college community in an independent environment. They provide mail sorting and delivery, package receipt and delivery, package shipment, courier service, and scheduling of vehicle usage and maintenance of college fleet.
Kellogg Community College is located in Battle Creek, Michigan, a community of approximately 54,000 people. Leisure activities, natural resources and learning opportunities provide a foundation for residents. Located along the I-94 interstate, Battle Creek is within 30 minutes of Kalamazoo, 60 minutes of Lansing and Grand Rapids and within three hours of Detroit, Chicago and Indianapolis.

Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, and climbing. Job requires lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward, potentially in excess of 50 pounds. Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations. Working around moving objects and equipment requires the need to wear appropriate protective gear for a warehouse environment and closed toed shoes or protective footwear.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least six (6+) months of relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain appropriate United States Postal Service (USPS) certifications.
• Ability to successfully complete certified forklift operator licensure within 30 days of hire (available through employer).
• Must possess and maintain valid driver's license and insurability under the College's auto policy.
• Ability to work effectively with stakeholders, demonstrating effective communication skills and customer service through courtesy, respect, and dependability.
• Working knowledge with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
• Ability to learn new software technology.
• Ability to lift minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information as outlined by applicable state and federal laws and college standards.
Preferred but not Required
• Certified forklift operator licensure.
• Familiar with software technology typically used in a shipping and receiving environment.
• Possess general knowledge of USPS regulations.
Proposed Salary
According to the published support staff salary schedule, Classification Pay Grade 11, 2024-2025 hourly wage range, step one $17.39 to step six $23.12. New 2025-2026 hourly wage range: step one $18.69 to step six $24.85. Internal applicants may refer to Article 22, Section 5C.

Job Duties
Essential Function: Shipping and Receiving
Description:
• Ship and receive merchandise via all carriers.
• Compile month-end report and schedule outside vendor shipments
• Enter receipt of merchandise electronically into college enterprise system.
• Provide exceptional customer service to include assisting customers/vendors in a pleasant, helpful manner.
• Collaborate with supervisor to provide outside vendors with college closures and worksite changes in operational hours.
• Collaborate with Bookstore Manager receiving, packing, shipping of merchandise/books in the processing of student online orders.
Essential Function: Mailroom
Description:
• Perform mailroom/sorting/distribution functions.
• Monitor Business Reply Mail (BRM), bulk mail invoices, BRM permits, and USPS pre-funded accounts.
• Ensure adequate supplies, postage, and permits to continue service by requesting additional funds when necessary.
• Compile month-end charge-back report.
Essential Function: Courier Service
Description:
• Provide primary courier service to other centers.
• In the event of absence, communicate to ensure backup courier service to other centers.
• Distribute packages, marketing and instructional materials, and supplies to all campuses
• Communicate courier scheduling changes to staff when necessary.
Essential Function: Vehicle Maintenance and Scheduling
Description:
• Enroll employees in program training modules within SafeColleges relating to driving modules and track employees for timely completion.
• Maintain KCC-approved drivers list and enter training completion dates.
• Verify that requirements are up-to-date prior to updating campus vehicles authorized drivers list.
• Maintain data and scheduling of college vehicle maintenance and reservations, including scheduling appointments/drivers for vehicle maintenance.
• Schedule maintenance with costs within director-approved limits.
