PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide direct special education services as assigned.
2. Engage teams in collaborative problem-solving in situations where the child is not able to meaningfully engage in, or profit from, the educational experience.
3. Lead the team in development and implementation of an educationally-based intervention plan to address the child's individual needs and ensure that parents are involved in the process.
4. Serve as liaison between the school, the home, and the community in building and maintaining positive relationships.
5. Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and other personnel to improve use of existing school programs and procedures as well as to plan and implement new programs and procedures related to the developmental needs of preschool aged children.
6. Coordinate or serve as a member of multidisciplinary and/or IFSP and/or IEP teams and provide information related to assessment, progress monitoring, and goal development.
7. Support classroom staff with both prevention and crisis response.
8. Fosters skill development with classroom staff by providing professional development, modeling and providing feedback on implementation.
9. Work with other team members to assure that goals are embedded within the general curriculum and supported throughout the day.
10. Collect data on student progress using the child assessment tool or other system the general education program utilizes as related to the students' IEP goals.
11. Maintains adequate and timely records, files, and other service and student data as required.
12. Coordinates referrals and programming with other community agencies and services.
13. Assist in completion of the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) rubric and provide guidance and support to providers about the continuum of settings available for preschool aged children.
14. Provide support to facilitate successful transitions in areas that affect children's learning opportunities.
15. Develop functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans to facilitate successful learning and socialization opportunities.  Provide services and disseminate information to encourage school wide positive behavior support.
16. Identify and work to prevent bias, prejudice, discrimination, and oppression that interfere with individual rights in the educational process.
17. Provide and interpret assessments and evaluations to determine eligibility for special education, and identify needs for programs and services.
18. Utilize home and community settings, as appropriate, to collect assessment information, collaborate with parents, and provide interventions.
19. Ensure that prevention, assessment, evaluation, and intervention services are sensitive to the diverse needs of the child and that are reflective of the child's culture.
20. Manage a caseload of Early On families.
21. Determine a child's eligibility for Early On/Michigan Mandatory Special Education and prepare a professional report of findings.
22. Use employer selected tools, prepare comprehensive screening of the child's family, developmental and social history and recommend appropriate educational and community services and/or referrals.
23. Conduct hearing and vision screenings per Early On program guidelines.
24. Prepare for and participate in teaming meetings.
25. Assist families with referrals for emergency family support and resources available throughout the county.
26. Conduct regularly scheduled home visits for Early On.
27. Support families and children before, during, and after transitions at program enrollment and exit.
28. Provide child development information, parenting information and community resources to enrolled families.
29. Complete and maintain appropriate paperwork for Early On to meet the Michigan Department of Education and ISD requirements.
30. Develop an appropriate schedule.
31. Maintain infant, child and adult CPR/AED and first aid certification.
32. Maintain appropriate communication log, records and reports regarding evaluations and contact with children, their families and community partners.
33. Develop and nurture community relationships with partner agencies serving young children with special needs.
34. Communicate effectively with other staff, community partners and administration.
35. Participate in professional development activities as appropriate and/or requested by the supervisor.
36. Provide personal transportation to homes and meetings throughout the county.
37. Complete other duties as assigned by the SJCISD Administration.
