SALARY AND BENEFITS
AVAILABLE: One (1) Full-Time position available; 52 weeks
SALARY: $100,000 - $125,000 annually, Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ROLE AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The Director of Center Programs and Special Services is responsible for the leadership, coordination, compliance, and oversight of designated GISD center-based special education programs and services. This includes coordination with center-based administrators, supervision of special services staff, and direct coordination with Human Resources, constituent districts, and community agencies. The Director also serves as the district's Section 504/ADA compliance officer and investigates formal/informal complaints as assigned. This role is designed to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality instructional programs and services, grounded in inclusion and compliance, and to promote continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making and collaborative leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and oversight for GISD’s designated center-based special education programs and Special Services Center.
- Coordinate with center-based administrators to ensure effective program delivery and leadership alignment.
- Supervise ancillary staff, including teacher consultants, occupational and physical therapists, school psychologists, and other personnel assigned to Special Services.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services to ensure compliance monitoring for all special education programs and services.
- Serve as the district’s Section 504/ADA compliance officer and investigate formal/informal complaints as assigned.
- Serve as a district’s Title IX investigator for assigned cases.
- Guide and support professional development, staff training, and capacity building for continuous instructional improvement.
- Coordinate development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and transition services.
- Monitor program budgets in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent; align staffing and resource allocations to meet program needs.
- Provide leadership and supervision to the school based services staff including the IDEA and Medicaid finance team.
- Participate in the development, revision, and execution of GISD’s Special Education Mandatory Plan and other compliance-related documentation.
- Represent GISD on local, county, and state committees as appropriate.
- Collaborate with LEAs to support effective inclusive practices and equitable educational access.
Other Duties:
- Serves in special administrative assignments as designated by the superintendent.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on special education, administration, or related field. Full approval (or eligibility) as a Director/Supervisor of Special Education by the Michigan Department of Education. Michigan School Administrator Certificate and valid Michigan teaching certificate or professional licensure.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a center-based building administrator. Additional experience as a central office special education administrator is preferred. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a special education provider, with preference given to individuals with local district experience in both special and general education. Experience teaching in a special education classroom is preferred.
Key Skills:
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to special education, including IDEA, Section 504, and ADA. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to supervise, support, and evaluate special services staff and ancillary personnel. Effective project and personnel management with excellent time management and organizational skills. Strong analytical and data management skills to support continuous improvement and compliance. Proficiency in education technology systems. Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments, families, LEAs, and community organizations. Capacity to maintain composure in complex problem-solving and conflict resolution scenarios.
