Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Warehouse Supervisor, located at Bay City Milling, 715 McGraw St., Bay City, MI 48708.
JOB SUMMARY
Manage sugar handling, packaging, warehousing, shipping, and receiving operations efficiently to minimize costs and maximize our productivity. This position will also work with our sales and quality departments to meet customer demands while keeping a safe quality food (SQF) environment for our customers. This position requires leadership skills to coach and train employees on operating safely while promoting a team atmosphere.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Maintain accurate inventories for finished products, packaging materials, and miscellaneous supplies.
- Conduct regular physical and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Enforce FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory practices for all materials and products.
- Plan and lead warehouse organization initiatives and long-term packaging strategies.
- Coordinate with Lift Truck Operators on inventory movement and shipping schedules.
- Monitor incoming deliveries and oversee proper inspection and documentation of packaging materials and ingredients.
- Oversee proper segregation and storage practices, including non-conforming product handling and chemical storage per AIB standards.
Employee Supervision & Development
- Supervise employees across packaging, warehousing, and shipping departments.
- Manage scheduling, onboarding, training, and development in SOP, GMP/Food Safety, and Occupational Safety.
- Direct Lift Truck Operators for warehouse inventory needs and logistics coordination.
- Enforce company policies, labor laws, and the collective bargaining agreement.
- Address employee concerns, grievances, and disciplinary matters in a fair and consistent manner.
Compliance, Audits & Safety
- Prepare for and participate in scheduled and unscheduled audits.
- Enforce safety standards, including Michigan Sugar safety policies and MIOSHA regulations.
- Support and maintain equipment reliability in coordination with the maintenance team.
- Ensure sanitation and pest control programs are effectively executed and documented.
Food Safety & Quality Assurance
- Assure compliance with 21 CFR 100 and Michigan Sugar’s GMP policies in all sugar handling, packaging, and shipping activities.
- Maintain required records under the Bioterrorism Act, including traceability documentation.
- Participate in the Food Safety Committee and conduct monthly sanitation self-inspections.
- Monitor HACCP-related equipment (screens, magnets, metal detectors) and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Administer mock recalls semi-annually and resolve deficiencies.
- Respond to customer packaging complaints by determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure COAs are provided when required and that shipping vehicles are properly inspected.
- Implement and oversee the glass and brittle plastic program in and around the warehouse
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree of Management and or 3 to 5 years of equivalent relevant experience
- Proficient computer skills in all areas for communication, documentation and ordering supplies
- Ability to manage the preventive maintenance plan and required documentation
- Food safety training or ability and willingness to obtain required training
