Position Summary
The Diesel Mechanic position is responsible for performing safe and accurate maintenance and repair of Class 5 through Class 8 commercial vehicles and tank trailers in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Depending on experience and certifications, candidates may qualify for Apprentice, Level I, II, III, or HM183 Mechanic roles.

Hourly pay range: $21 – $45/hour (based on experience, certifications, and location)

Core Responsibilities
-
Perform general vehicle and property maintenance in a fast-paced shop environment
-
Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on tractors, trailers, and related equipment

Use maintenance software to create/track work orders (Level I and above)

Mentor junior mechanics and assist in diagnostics, repairs, and safety procedures (Level II and III)

Diagnose and repair new technology systems (Level III)

Perform DOT inspections and testing (HM183)
Requirements by Level
Levels I, II, III:
-
Valid driver’s license
-
1–5 years of verifiable experience in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance

Air Brake Certification or 1 year of experience with willingness to certify

EPA 609 Certification or ability to obtain
HM183:

Valid driver’s license
-
Verifiable 3+ years of experience signing test forms as a Registered Inspector or

1 year under supervision of a qualified inspector with ability to certify

Certified DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector preferred
