An Environmental Health Sanitarian, under general supervision, performs routine and special inspections, evaluations,
and investigations for compliance with federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations relative to
environmental health and protection. An employee in this class may inspect food service establishments, private wells, residential sewage treatment systems, body art facilities, camp grounds, children’s camps, public swimming pool facilities, and other facilities for compliance with environmental health standards. This employee also investigates complaints relative to food borne illnesses, environmental nuisances, air quality issues and other environmental
concerns. An Environmental Health Sanitarian will also assist in monitoring (via self-evaluations and peer reviews) and adherence to program protocols and procedures for quality assurance, improvement and compliance using preestablished standards, policies and guidelines. This position is also responsible for documenting accurate and timely records and reports of evaluations, inspections and other work activities in addition to other duties as required.
