Reporting to the Manager, Media Design, this full-time regular support staff role works year-round Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed by the department or College.
Position Summary
Under general supervision, this role performs complex, technical, and/or specialized work requiring extensive print and graphics experience and advanced knowledge and expertise. This work requires a broad, yet specialized knowledge base within printing, graphics, and copying. They may be responsible for coordinating the work within a specific functional area within the print shop, including lead work direction to student assistants.
Kellogg Community College is located in Battle Creek, Michigan, a community of approximately 54,000 people. Located along the I-94 interstate, Battle Creek is within 30 minutes of Kalamazoo, 60 minutes of Lansing and Grand Rapids and within three hours of Detroit, Chicago and Indianapolis.
Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate degree AND two or more (2+) years of relevant experience OR one (1) year of post-secondary education AND at least (3+) years of relevant experience OR four or more (4+) years relevant experience, such as work in a digital print or copy shop environment. At the time of application, attach unofficial transcripts showing successfully completed coursework, if applicable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Intermediate level knowledge with PC and Mac platforms, their operating systems and applicable software.
• Working knowledge of pre-press/design software, MIS/W2P software and digital press operating systems.
• Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of digital printing, binding, design processes along with variable data and large format printing.
• Demonstrated experience in operation of various reproduction, printing and copy equipment, including performing basic maintenance of print machinery.
Proposed Salary
According to the published support staff salary schedule, Classification Pay Grade 14, 2024-2025 hourly wage range, step one $22.54 to step six $28.85. Internal applicants may refer to Article 22, Section 5C.

Job Duties
Essential Function: Pre-press/Pre-flight
Description:
• Assess all production orders for cost savings while maintaining efficiency, effective quality assurances and results by determining best layouts. Update production orders in the W2P system as needed.
• Prepare materials for production including graphics manipulation, limited graphic design work, desktop publishing and imposing files.
Essential Function: Digital Press Operations
Description:
• Perform high-quality digital printing work including advanced variable data.
• Receive master material electronically, digitally manipulating color values, preparing, and setting up files and equipment for printing and finishing, reviewing all proofs and final product samples produced before releasing to customers or performing finishing work.
• Conduct regular and special maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance based on equipment specifications and manufacture's recommended schedules.
• Initiate and coordinate maintenance and service calls as needed.
• Record actual length/sheets of media used in job tickets and indicate reason(s) for discrepancy/overage.
Essential Function: Finishing Operations
Description:
• Set up machines to specifications for finishing, monitor machines during the run to ensure adherence to specifications, unload, stack and prepare for shipping and delivery.
• Perform hand bindery operations as the job requires.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
• Initiate and coordinate maintenance and service calls as needed.

Description:
• Effectively communicate with customers, college staff and vendors.
• Maintain a cooperative, personable, courteous, and communicative relationship with fellow workers, clients, and the campus community in general.
• Maintain working knowledge of campus graphics standards.

• Maintain the security and confidentiality of material and information processed.
• Keep work areas neat and clean and observe all college and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Daily delivery of finished products.
