Summary
Michigan Technological University seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sound to teach in the BA Sound Design and BS Audio Production & Technology major programs. The sound programs are supported through the integration of Music, Theatre and Art in the department as well as collaboration with other units in the College of Sciences and Arts, the College of Engineering, and the College of Computing. The successful candidate will have a strong mix of professional and teaching experience. This position requires a mix of classroom teaching and supervision of applied production work as well as creative activity in sound. In addition to department-based production, the degree programs include integration with the University Enterprise Program where students work in multidisciplinary teams on real world projects. A separate search for a tenure-track assistant professor of sound will commence in the early fall. An individual hired into the visiting position will be eligible to apply for that position.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Classroom teaching will include 2-3 classes per semester from the following: Live Sound Design Intensive, Sound System Design & Engineering, Sound Design, Sound Practicum, and Sound Technology. Practicum teaching will involve supervising student work in one or more areas, including: sound design for theatre and themed entertainment, sound for picture, live music reinforcement, streaming, and recording, and studio recording-based on the candidate's expertise as well as other projects of interest to the candidate.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Terminal degree (e.g. MFA, DMA, PhD), relevent to the teaching of sound.
Required Experience
* A strong mix of professional and teaching experience such as -
-Leadership experience on successful professional audio projects
- A background in multiple areas of sound practice
- Experience in theatre or narrative-based sound projects
Desirable Education and/or Experience
* Two years teaching experience in sound related disciplines.
* Three years of professional sound work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

* Ability to work with multiple Digital Audio Workstations, including Logic and Pro Tools.

* Candidates should have a primary and secondary focus in one of the following areas: theatre sound design, sound for picture, sound for video games, music recording, music composition, music producing, music business, broadcast sound, installations.
* Experience with narrative based work
* Demonstrated success in working with people with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
* Demonstrated drafting capability as it relates to sound system design and deployment/installation.
* Understanding of acoustics as it applies to successful recording, monitoring, and live sound.
Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
