This part-time, 10-month (August-May), 29-hour/week position supports the daily operations of Grand Valley State University's Esports Program. The coordinator manages the Laker Esports Center and broadcast studio, supervises student employees, and collaborates with the Esports Club to maintain a structured and engaging environment for both casual and competitive gamers. This position plays a key role in fostering a vibrant and safe gaming community while ensuring operational efficiency, quality streaming production, and strong student engagement.
There is an opportunity for additional summer work through the coordination of esports camps, clinics, and fundraising events, which may provide supplemental income and support long-term program growth.
Compensation
This position is a non-benefit eligible, part-time role paid bi-weekly with an anticipated range of $26,000-$30,000 for 10 months (August-May), commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Primary Duties
• Manage day-to-day operations of the Laker Esports Center, including equipment upkeep, inventory, and space scheduling.
• Collaborate with the Esports Club to support student-led programming and competition, shared use of space, and inclusive engagement across diverse gaming interests.
• Coordinate broadcasting and streaming logistics for select esports events, providing guidance to student production teams and assisting with technical setup as needed.
• Recruit, train, and supervise student employees involved in facility operations and event support.
• Support tracking of facility-related expenses and assist with basic purchasing and inventory records.
• Assist with external marketing and digital communications for the Esports Program, while supporting the Esports Club in managing their own platforms (e.g., Discord, social media).
• Serve as a point of contact for campus partners requesting use of the Esports Center or involvement in esports events.
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes student engagement and community-building.
• Represent the Esports Program and Recreation & Wellness in a professional manner through daily interactions and communications.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the students, Esports Program and departmental initiatives
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Bachelor's degree in esports, digital media, recreation, student affairs, or a related field.
• Experience working in esports, student programming, campus recreation, or related settings, especially in gaming spaces or with student organizations.
• Basic knowledge of broadcasting and streaming platforms.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, in alignment with GVSU's institutional values.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Master's degree in business, sports/recreation administration, education, or a related field.
• Prior experience in collegiate recreation or student affairs, or campus esports programming.
• Experience managing a campus facility or esports center.
• Familiarity with budget tracking or purchasing processes within a campus or organizational setting.
Working Conditions
Work is normally performed in an office environment. Some travel may be required with work on weekends, evenings, and other hours as needed.
