This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
A position is open to assist with data analysis and evaluation of a long-term project that evaluated the effects of deer and elk browsing on aspen stand characteristics and wildlife habitat conditions in northern Michigan. All the field data for this project has been collected. The person selected for this position will help analyze data such as: (a) ungulate browsing surveys, (b) vegetation sampling data that characterized the composition and structure of aspen communities, (c) avian survey data from audio recordings, (d) and summarize data in written format for discussion with the research team. The person selected for this position should also be capable of finding scientific literature online and summarize the findings. While the person selected for this position could work remotely (i.e., to MSU), periodic Zoom and/or in-person meetings will be needed to discuss progress and questions with Dr. Henry (Rique) Campa III and/or Miranda VanCleave. The person serving in this role will be invited to be a co-author on any technical reports, professional presentations, and/or manuscripts for publication.
Desired Qualifications
Working on a B.S. degree in wildlife ecology or related field or has already graduated with such a degree
Good use of software such as Excel, PowerPoint and, ideally, some working knowledge of R
Good written communication skills
Ability to search for and summarize scientific literature
Completes work in a timely manner with agreed upon deadlines.
