Behavior Specialist

We are the behavioral health community organization responsible for the delivery of mental health, substance abuse treatment coordination, and developmental disabilities services for Kent County. The Behavior Specialist examines and provides remedial services for persons requiring behavioral interventions to improve a person’s ability to perform daily activities. The Behavior Specialist completes functional assessments, behavior plans, monitors behavior plans and provides training on behavior plans. This role involves collaboration with clinical team and managing clinical consultation meetings to ensure positive outcomes. (H0031, H0032, H2000, S5111 and S5116 Medicaid billing codes)
This position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Evening hours may be required but would be pre-planned. There are no weekends or on-call requirements for this role. While the position is remote, this role will meet with clients in the community and go into office settings as part of their responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidate must have one of the two following:
- 1. Bachelor’s degree in human services related field (for example, Social Work, Education, Psychology, or Sociology) and meets qualification for a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional and/or Qualified Mental Health Professional (requires one-year full time experience working with persons with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness and appropriate license/degree per State of Michigan).
- Two years full time experience working with persons with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness
- 2. Currently credentialed as a Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) with at least one-year full time experience working with persons with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness
- Thorough working knowledge of professional ethics and standards of practice.
- Manage stressful situations calmly and rationally;
- Communicate verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
- Effectively relate and interact with individuals who are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication skills and understands how behaviors are sometimes used to communicate feelings and/or undiagnosed medical conditions or pain.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use
- Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, database management, and data entry skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated time management skills
PREFERRED
- Willingness to work toward credentialing as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
- Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
