HL Mando America Corporation has an opening for the position of Vehicle Application Engineer IV (Ref# VAE530TK).
Work Location: 29930 Hudson Dr. Novi, MI 48377. Position may telecommute/work remotely up to 3 days per week. Position requires up to 30% domestic travel.
Job Duties: As a specialist in complex technical and business matters, responsible for in-vehicle and simulated environments calibration, verification, and testing of electronic brake control modules and electro-mechanical brake modules, and for the validation of system-level requirements based on vehicle performance. Evaluate/understand vehicle performance specifications with customer by analyzing requirements that dictate specific measurable parameters and discuss results and trade-offs with internal and external customers, using vehicle dynamics knowledge and specific theory concepts associated with the vehicle performance. Analyze, understand, and apply algorithms and functionalities while presenting and selecting calibration strategies to customer, with an understanding of foundation brakes theory along with vehicle dynamics and brake control features such as ABS-EBD (anti block brake system – electronic brake distribution), TCS (traction control system), VDC (vehicle dynamics control), brake hold, hill descent control, electronic parking brake, failsafe, and diagnostics. Partner with the software team to design, develop, implement, and validate algorithm features by providing feedback based on in-vehicle testing and on analysis of functional software specifications for chassis control systems and foundation brakes. Calibrate and validate functional software using various test methods (MIL –model in the loop, SIL –software in the loop, HIL –hardware in the loop, in-vehicle testing, open loop simulation) to optimize the performance of ABS, TCS, ESC, pedal feel, and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) functions. Execute vehicle performance testing and tuning. Use simulation tools to support NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) investigations and define calibration strategies that meet vehicle requirements, using knowledge of ECU (electronic control unit) software integration to demonstrate performance improvements by testing multiple software variants. Operate the vehicle on the test track with low- and high-mu surfaces as specified in accordance with the procedural limits to perform calibration, testing, and validation. Lead project vehicle calibration activities and associated documentation according to customer and internal process to ensure the vehicle level functional requirements are properly tracked. Lead customer vehicle evaluations and support development and homologation sessions. Use of MATLAB, Simulink, CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, C, C++, PTC Integrity/Windchill, and JIRA.
Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign academic equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Plus 8 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation including Application Engineer, Test Engineer, or related automotive experience. Position requires 6 years of experience with development of brake systems, vehicle performance testing, test track experience with low- & high-mu surfaces, MATLAB, CANalyzer, CANape, and CANoe. 40hrs/week.
