Summary
A PLC/HMI Programmer will be expected to work as part of a team of other engineers and consultants involved in the design and implementation of diverse and challenging solutions for industrial and commercial clients. They will be responsible for verifying hardware design while creating the PLC/HMI programs. Once the systems have been built they will support the commissioning team in correcting any software design errors or deficiencies. The candidate should have some controls experience, knowledge of industry and current technology, good communication skills and the ability to meet project requirements.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Must be familiar with Allen-Bradley PLC’s (RS Logix 5000/Studio 5000) with Allen-Bradley or other HMIs. Additional experience with Siemens and/or other languages is also beneficial.
- Must have a basic functional understanding of electrical and pneumatic controls systems.
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and follow/implement specific customer standards relating to design controls.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and device data sheets.
- Must be able to commission / debug automation systems.
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Must be able to interface with Mechanical Design, shop trades and customers.
- Assists in helping monitor project delivery dates, changes, and standards with both in-house and outsourced designs.
- Ensures engineering compliance and company awareness with all customer specifications.
- Works directly with hardware designers/follow-up team and project management providing software support.
- Develops standardized software tools and designs under the direction of the Software Engineering Supervisor.
- Must have basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must understand and follow safety & environmental regulations and identify safety/environmental concerns.
- Must adhere to the Quality System and participate in continuous improvement.
- Must be familiar with windows operating systems and software.
- Must have a professional demeanor, solid interpersonal skills with good written and oral communication capabilities.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree; or 5 years working experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Bachelor's (B.S) degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
Travel Requirements
Regular local travel to client facilities and customer/supplier sites for meetings or support is required. Non-local travel to customer sites for integration will not be required.
