Job Goal: The General Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and functional learning environment for students, staff, and the community. This position ensures that school facilities remain well-maintained and supports daily operations by assisting with cleaning, maintenance, and event setup.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderate physical labor.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with staff, students, and the public.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisors.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (for applicable positions).
- Basic computer and email skills, including use of a Windows-based computer or iPad to update the district’s ticketing system.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and wax floors to maintain cleanliness.
- Shampoo carpeting using appropriate equipment.
- Clean walls, vents, furniture, drinking fountains, light fixtures, and other interior surfaces.
- Wash windows, glass doors, and blinds.
- Empty trash receptacles and maintain cleanliness around building entrances.
- Clean restrooms, restock supplies, and address plumbing issues as needed.
- Change light bulbs within safe, reachable heights.
- Report repair needs through work requests.
- Remove snow/ice and apply salt or de-icing products as necessary.
- Organize, restock, and order custodial supplies for closets and carts.
- Move and set up furniture and equipment for special events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain the security of assigned areas, including locking/unlocking doors and setting alarms.
- Travel between locations if required.
- Uniforms are required during all work shifts. Shirts will be provided; employees must supply and wear black pants and black slip-resistant shoes.
Reports To: Facilities Manager or designated supervisor.
Location: Positions are available at multiple district locations.
Compensation & Schedule:
- Hourly Rate: Starting at $16.00 an hour, based on experience.
- Schedule: Monday–Friday; hours vary by location. Occasional weekends and overtime may be required.
- Holiday Pay and Paid Time Off: 12 paid holidays per year, along with additional paid time off.
- Position Type: Contracted through a third-party service provider.
