Position Overview: The Maintenance Parts Department Internship is designed for students or recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in inventory management, parts procurement, and warehouse operations within a maintenance department. As an intern, you will assist the maintenance team in managing the inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials critical to the smooth operation of the facility's equipment and machinery. Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management:
- Assist in tracking the inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies.
- Ensure parts are properly labeled, organized, and stored according to company standards.
- Perform regular stock audits and assist in reconciling inventory discrepancies.
- Parts Procurement & Ordering:
- Support the maintenance team with the restocking of parts and supplies.
- Maintain communication with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of parts.
- Data Entry & Record Keeping:
- Update inventory management systems with accurate and timely data related to parts and supplies.
- Ensure all items are entered into and tracked correctly in the system (e.g., barcoding, part numbers).
- Maintain detailed logs of parts usage, returns, and purchases.
- Parts Distribution:
- Assist in the distribution of parts to maintenance teams, ensuring they are delivered on time and as requested.
- Ensure that parts issued are recorded and accounted for.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to understand parts needs and expedite the ordering of necessary components.
- Support the implementation of inventory management systems to streamline operations
- Organization:
- Help maintain an orderly parts room, ensuring that items are organized and easily accessible.
- Assist in labeling and categorizing parts for ease of retrieval and minimizing downtime.
- Maintain a cleanliness area, this may mean sweeping or washing floors.
- Receive and put inventory away.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure that all parts and materials are stored and handled following safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Help ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials when necessary.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or certification in Business, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of inventory management software or willingness to learn.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) is preferred.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry items (up to 25-50 lbs) as required.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment and stand for extended periods.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, vendors, and supervisors.
- Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
