Position Summary
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion in students, faculty, and staff.
This position is that of a sworn Police Officer. Primary duties include patrolling roads, parking lots, and campus buildings by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot. The officer is a visible deterrent to criminal activity and provides necessary emergency, safety, and public services. Duties include handling medical emergencies, disturbances, arrests, enforcing college policy, applying laws fairly, and striving to provide a safe and secure environment for the Delta College community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited to the Following
Patrol (Vehicle, Bicycle, Foot):

Patrol assigned areas to deter crime, ensure peace, and serve college interests

Respond to police service calls, investigate crimes, secure evidence

Write detailed reports, control traffic, enforce parking and safety policies

Make arrests and provide assistance as needed
Emergency Response:
-
Administer emergency first aid and summon medical personnel if necessary

Respond to police, fire, and security incidents
-
Serve legal documents (subpoenas, warrants)
-
Investigate motor vehicle crashes and direct traffic
Investigations and Reporting:
-
Conduct investigations of criminal and non-criminal complaints
-
Interview witnesses and suspects, prepare reports
-
Perform fingerprinting using LiveScan
-
Collaborate with prosecutors, other law enforcement, and college judicial systems
Public Relations and Communications:
-
Provide assistance including vehicle unlocks, safety escorts, directions, etc.

Operate dispatch systems, monitor alarms, and promote crime prevention

Maintain a solid understanding of college operations and policies
Required Qualifications
-
Associate degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or equivalent knowledge and skills

Licensed Police Officer by M.C.O.L.E.S
-
Valid, unrestricted Michigan Driver’s License

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Experience working with diverse populations, including students, employees, and visitors

Flexibility to work all shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime

Physically able to perform all police duties (running, vehicle operation, etc.)

Must be available during college closures as essential personnel
Additional Experiences Considered
-
Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement / Criminal Justice
-
C.P.R./First Aid – Medical First Responder certification
-
Training in lethal/non-lethal force
-
Precision driving training
-
Prior college/university police experience
