The Residential Construction Discipline at Delta College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track instructor committed to equity, retention, and completion. The instructor will teach in face-to-face, blended, and online formats. The ability to teach at varied times and multiple locations, including Downtown Centers and Dual Enrollment Partners, is required.

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions
This position will teach lecture and lab coursework in both construction and architectural curriculums, demanding hands-on construction experience and architectural education and software proficiency.
Core Responsibilities:

Demonstrate commitment to BEDI and Delta College’s mission.

Teach and evaluate student performance in construction and architecture courses.

Prepare/update course syllabi, instructional materials, and learning objectives.

Advise students and provide academic support.

Serve as liaison between faculty and program leadership.

Participate in program advisory committees and community outreach.

Integrate intercultural experiences into curriculum and instruction.

Incorporate technology and software including AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D drafting tools.

Maintain a safe, hazard-free lab and classroom environment.

Serve the community and college through recruitment and engagement activities.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Architecture, or a related field.

Minimum five (5) years of recent and relevant experience in both construction and architecture.

Certifications and/or licensure in both fields.

Experience using AutoCAD suite, including 2D and 3D applications.

Michigan Builder’s License.

Proficiency in print reading, technical math, and computer troubleshooting.

Student-centered teaching philosophy and commitment to community college education.

Framing

Finish construction

Construction law

Estimating

Mechanical systems

Drafting & Design

Experience with both residential and commercial architecture.
Additional Experiences Considered

Master’s degree in a related field

Post-secondary teaching experience (minimum two years)

Experience in student competitions (e.g., SkillsUSA)

Leadership and industry partnerships (e.g., Habitat for Humanity)

Construction management background

Demonstrated BEDI-informed pedagogy

Ideal Candidate Profile
Delta College is looking for a faculty member who can serve as a bridge between the construction and architectural programs, bringing a dual-skill set that allows for program growth into commercial construction. Candidates with construction management expertise and willingness to expand competencies post-hire will be strongly considered.
