Summary: The Department of Movement Science at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) invites applicants for a full-time affiliate faculty member (non-tenure line) in the Sport Management program beginning on August 6, 2025. We seek a colleague who is committed to undergraduate teaching excellence and mentoring, is able to teach throughout the curriculum and understands emerging trends in the areas of sport management. Individuals from all backgrounds, including from underrepresented groups, are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must be able to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and community members with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
Responsibilities - Essential Functions:
• 12-15 credit workload per semester in Sport Management
• Provide mentorship and support professional development opportunities for Sport Management students
• Provide vision and expertise in sport management program development
• Develop and maintain communication with community partners and expand local and regional connections and field experience sites
• Serve as advisor to the Sport Management Club
Required Qualifications and Education:
• A master's degree in Sport Management or a closely related field
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and a willingness to adapt teaching to the rapidly changing sport management landscape
• Evidence of a commitment to using inclusive teaching practices to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.
• Ability to teach a broad array of courses in Sport Management.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supervising student interns and supporting students in professional development activities
• Minimum of 2 years of undergraduate teaching experience, mentoring, and/or advising in Sport Management or related area
• Ability to teach content courses in technology, new media, and/or revenue generation.
• Experience as a sport practitioner
• Evidence of a commitment to quality mentoring
• Experience in promoting Sport Management curriculum to current and prospective students
• Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and develop community partnerships
Minimum Starting Salary: $50,000; commensurate with experience.
