Summary
The Title IX Coordinator manages a wide range of complex and confidential tasks. This includes overseeing university-wide compliance with federal, state, and civil rights laws and providing strategic planning, policy oversight, training, prevention programming, reporting, investigation, case management, and remedies relative to Title IX and other sex-based harassment and discrimination laws
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
* Act as the University Title IX Coordinator.
* Interpret federal and state laws and regulations regarding Title IX and stay current with the applicable laws and regulations to maintain university compliance.
* Ensure that all aspects of federal and state sex-based laws and requirements are met for policies, procedures, training, prevention education, reporting, support and assistance, investigation, and assessment.
* Oversee strategic planning, policy oversight, training, prevention programming, reporting, investigations, and case management relative to these laws.
* Monitor, coordinate, and revise policies and procedures related to Title IX and sex-based laws and guidance, such as VAWA, ensuring compliance.
* Address complaints of alleged sex-based discrimination, harassment, and violence made against students and employees of the university utilizing the relevant university policies and procedures.
* Provide supportive measures, assistance, and resources to all parties involved in a complaint of sex discrimination, sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment.
* Establish and maintain confidential, accurate, and thorough case records of all complaints of sex discrimination and sexual misconduct.
* Design, lead, and assess training and educational programs to ensure employees and students understand Title IX, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and retaliation. Training populations include faculty, staff, and students in online, in-person, and/or written formats.
* Recruit, coordinate, and supervise the Title IX staff, including the deputy coordinators, investigators, hearing officers, procedural officers, informal resolution facilitators, and advisors. Ensure all TIX Staff meet annual training requirements.
* Supervise prevention coordinator.
* Utilize specialized university software programs for case management, training, and documentation. (Canvas, Maxient, Banweb, Banner, Aspire, Vector)
* Chair the University-wide Title IX Awareness Committee.
* Attend training for Title IX professionals.
* Develop and oversee TIX-related web pages and resources.
* Coordinate with Public Safety and Police Services for case management and Clery Act compliance.
* Assist with addressing complaints of other sex-based civil rights alleged sex-based discrimination and harassment against students and employees of the university.
* Assist with formal investigations within Equal Opportunity Compliance and Title IX by serving as a co-investigator.
* Prepare responses for complaint cases for federal and state agencies.
* Prepare reports for University purposes, state reporting, and federal regulations.
* Oversee TIX assessment, including the university-wide sexual misconduct survey.
* Problem-solve, respond to inquiries, and resolve concerns with diplomacy and tact.
* Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
* Integrate safety practices into daily activities.
* Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
* Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in communication, education, social science, human resources, public administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Required Experience
* At least two years of experience in higher education, human resources, social work, or other professional areas from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
* One year experience working with issues related to sexual harassment/discrimination, sexual assault, and/or dating/domestic violence.
* Two years experience with the development and implementation of training and programming.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
* Master's degree in communication, education, human resources, social sciences, student affairs, or related field or PhD in communication, education, human resources, social sciences, student affairs, or related field or JD.
* Demonstrated experience in steering program priorities using strategic planning directives.
* Demonstrated understanding of working with STEM staff, faculty, and students.
* Evidence of increasing levels of professional responsibilities demonstrating proficiency in policy/procedure management, conflict management, and supervision.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
* Knowledge of Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act, and their practical application to higher education environments.
* Demonstrated ability to use judgment when dealing with confidential information.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to deliver effective and engaging presentations and training programs to varied audiences.
* Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
