The current Director will be retiring January of 2026 and will assist in the transition up until that point.
This position will be open until Sunday, May 25th. First round interviews will be the week of June 2nd.
SALARY
$90,000 - $100,000
SUMMARY
The Director of Student Support Services directs the special education program integration with the other instructional departments, the Intermediate School District and the State of Michigan. The Director of Student Support Services is responsible for ensuring compliance with special education regulations (state and federal). This position may be performed in addition to a district administrator position.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Director of Student Support Services reports to the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Coordinates secondary special education programs and services.
- Develops and implements in-service activities for special education staff and administrators ensuring compliance with special education regulations (state and federal).
- Discusses and coordinates special education programs, personnel and students with building administrators.
- Ensures compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.
- Monitors staff caseloads and student progress.
- Assists in the adaptation of school policies to include special education needs.
- Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education.
- Serves as resource for special education.
- Follows all Board policies, state laws and regulations.
- Provides support to other positions as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the district secondary special education program.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (must be willing to obtain)
- Three (3) to five (5) years experience as an administrator.
- Masters in Education Leadership/School Administration or related area.
- Experience working with a diverse population.
- Experience working with at risk students.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Teaching Certificate.
- Must be eligible for an administrator’s certificate.
- Full approval of Director of Special Education or must be willing to obtain.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Knowledge, skill and ability in the use of e-mail, internet, power point, spreadsheet and word processing.
