SALARY: $85,000
STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Information Technology - Network Computing Team
LOCATION: Grand Rapids, W.A. Lettinga Campus
REPORTS TO: Director - Network Computing and Telecommunications
SUMMARY:
This position's role is to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization's IT assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. The Network Manager will also schedule and direct the activities of assembled DU-ITS, and/or consultant teams to resolve end-user hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity, and inclusion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage all activities in support of the geographically distributed, Local Area Network and Wide Area Network.
• Manage Internet edge Infrastructure, including routers, firewalls, and traffic shaping systems.
• Manage Wireless network (access points, WLC, NAC)
• Manage Infrastructure Monitoring System.
• Assist the Director in evaluating new network systems and solutions for potential implementation into the integrated network environment.
• Manage/direct activities with other Davenport ITS Teams and end-user groups to ensure compliance with network equipment standards.
• Assist other ITS Directors and Managers in developing backup and redundant strategies, documenting all procedures, and providing periodic training to all support personnel.
• Serve as backup to the Customer Support Center in the event of a network problem or any other network-type issue.
• Manage ongoing enhancement of the current wide area network infrastructure to support future use of IP telephony, and other technology platforms as required to support the University's Strategic Mission.
• Available via cell phone after hours for network outage assistance.
• Demonstrate and promote the University's Cultural Values.
• Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC, and national affiliations associated with athletics or other role-specific regulations.
• Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's Degree and/or professional certification preferred and at least 10+ years of experience in LAN/WAN technologies.
• Experience with the following attributes (EIGRP Routing, BGP Routing, VLAN, SD-WAN, Wireless LAN Controller, Stacked Switch Management, and NetFlow).
• Additional network technology skills needed including but not limited to Network Access Control, traffic shaping, firewall (system mgt, policy development and programming, VPN, NAT), PRTG Monitoring system.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large networks of 20 nodes or greater.
• Familiarity with open-source software.
• Demonstrated successful experience in developing budgets and long-range technology planning.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to think logically, analyze data, and process detailed information.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Self-motivated and directed in individual work assignments.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and assignments.
• Must be highly motivated and solution-oriented, with a high degree of integrity, confidentiality, and dedication to the mission of the University.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
