Software Safety Engineer - Embedded Systems Sterling Heights, MI Contract Position $64.28-$71.42/Hour Join a team dedicated to designing and producing armored combat and support vehicles. Responsibilities: * Serve as the primary liaison between Systems, Software, and Test teams to ensure software-related safety compliance for embedded vehicle systems. * Analyze and decompose system/software requirements to determine Software Criticality Indices in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and the Joint Software Systems Engineering Handbook. * Develop system safety requirements, designs, and implementation assessments to identify hazards and ensure critical safety objectives are achieved. * Support system hazard analyses and recommend design, equipment, or procedural changes to mitigate or eliminate hazards. * Create software subsystem architecture and design specifications for features, functions, and algorithms across multiple electronic control units. * Review software architectures and designs for safety assurance in electronics and embedded systems. * Evaluate test plans and procedures to verify safety requirements and identify potential hazardous operations. * Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field is required. * Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance (Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible). * At least 7 years of experience designing software to meet safety-critical requirements using MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, or similar standards. * Minimum of 3 years' experience developing, creating, or testing embedded software and controls using C or C++. * Experience with model-based software development techniques. * Proficiency in requirements management tools such as Cameo or DOORS. * Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems under software control. * Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 5%. * Must be able to pass the Anthropometric Size Requirement (ASR) test for confined space access and work on/around military vehicles. * Desired Qualifications: * Master's degree in a STEM discipline. * Experience with embedded software test development and systems integration. * Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies. * Prior experience in the defense industry. * Continuous improvement mindset and familiarity with process optimization techniques.
