POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director, Donated Goods, operates the textile/cardboard baler and prepares bales for shipment to salvage buyers. Will need to be qualified to operate a forklift.
EDUCATION: High school graduate or GED a plus but not required.
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months experience as an equipment operator needed.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: Ability to make decisions with the help and/or approval of higher authority on occasions as might be needed. Ability to write legibly, make written notes and make basic math calculations. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions use independent judgment, and concentrate on detail and sequential work tasks. Ability to make corrections required of work tasks and to recommend solutions for work problems/complex problems. Ability to work with others and to perform tasks under stressful conditions .Must be able to judge the capacity of machine, work safely around equipment and perform maintenance on equipment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, have good coordination in arms and have the use of both arms. Ability to stand for long periods, ambulate independently, climb, stoop, bend, kneel, balance, push and pull on a daily basis. The employee must regularly lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. May be required to stand for up to 8 hours at a time. Able to perform work outside of office and involves exposure to fumes, machinery, electricity, noise, dust, dirt and heat.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Ability to handle a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities at one time. Ability to see and recognize colors, speak in a manner that can be understood and hear sounds at a normal level. Ability to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination. Highly organized, energetic, team oriented individual with a positive “can-do” attitude and a strong commitment to outstanding customer service. Must be capable of making independent decisions. Fundamental ability to understand, accept and work with people who have disabilities and/or other barriers to employment.
MACHINES/EQUIPMENT: Ability to pass and maintain a forklift certification; having the forklift certification is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed in a warehouse environment. Occasional handling of trade fixtures. High adaptability required. Work environment can be hectic (fast paced) with frequent short deadlines and a regular number of critical or unusual situations.
POSITION DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Participates in and upholds the values and processes devoted to continuous quality improvement in all Goodwill operations.
• May truck bales to storage place on pallet jack or put up with a forklift.
• Is aware of all safety rules and regulations and observes them. Is responsible for the safety of fellow employees.
• Is responsible for keeping work area clean and for making sure that fire exit is accessible during fire drills.
• Required to drive a vehicle or equipment daily. Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record required.
• Follows maintenance instructions to insure all equipment is properly cared for and is in safe operating condition. Able and willing to report any and all damage, no matter how slight to any equipment which was caused by self or fellow worker to supervisor immediately.
