This is a full-time position (32-40 hours/week) with benefits as provided for within the Bay County Public Health Registered Nurses Organization, although union membership is voluntary.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides public health nursing services necessary to implement the agency program in an assigned area. Job responsibilities and activities include providing education, referrals and direct nursing care for teen and adult clients seeking Family Planning and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) care while working closely with the Nurse Practitioner. To be cross trained in all public health department clinics and actively participates in Community and Health Department programs. Supervision received: Works under the Nursing Clinical Services Manager.
ESSSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides Family Planning and related health services to clients following policy and procedures of clinic. Duties include, but not limited to assessment of individual client needs for appropriate care in areas of: Pregnancy testing and counseling; educating clients on sexual health, family planning, and/or contraceptives; dispensing contraceptives as ordered by the Nurse Practitioner; HIV pre/post counseling, testing and risk reduction planning; STI counseling, diagnosis, treatment; documentation and client partner notification; referrals to appropriate health and/or social agencies.
2. Assessment of client immunization status and may provide immunizations per Immunization Program policies
3. Helps to achieve continuity of client care by planning and exchanging information with Nurse Practitioner, Physician, and other appropriate health/social agencies, maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws.
4. Provides consultant to families/schools/other social/health agencies in reference to Family Planning, STIs, HIV/AIDS, immunizations.
5. Trained in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS).
6. Participates in Community and Health Department in-services, projects, and health fairs on Family Planning, STIs, HIV, and immunizations.
7. Assists with annual review and updates to the Family Planning Guidance Manual in accordance with state guidelines.
8. Assists with annual review and updates to the Family Planning and STI standing Orders.
9. Completes weekly and/or monthly medication inventory and ordering and restocking supplies for Clinic.
10. Completes quarterly chart audits.
11. Actively participates in Coalitions locally/regionally.
12. In times of a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties inside or outside of Bay County to perform emergency response roles, as required.
13. Consistent and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
14. All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure: Possession of a current license to practice professional nursing in Michigan
Education: B.S.N. preferred or A.D.N. or diploma from a school of nursing approved by the N.L.N. of Nursing
Experience: Demonstrated competency in practice of professional nursing. Two years of satisfactory public health nursing experience desired. Experience and knowledge in Family Planning, communicable diseases & immunizations preferred. Must have a valid vehicle operator’s license and an acceptable driving record; Computer skills required.

Physical: This position requires sitting, being mobile, bending and/or standing for significant periods of time.
Additional requirements include the ability to move objects according to the following weight and frequency: Generally, 20-50 pounds of force up to one third of the time. Candidate must possess physical dexterity to perform tests and medical procedures related to job. Candidate must have adequate visual acuity and hearing comprehension to read reports and communicate with clients and other providers and have adequate physical dexterity to climb stairs, balance and navigate under unstable environmental conditions.
