ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Available to provide direct resident care when needed.
Direct, evaluate, and supervise all resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
Review residents admitted and compare physician orders with each resident’s plan of care to assure appropriate implementation of the physician’s plan of care.
Assist in the admission, transfer, and discharge of residents and to complete admission, transfer, and discharge documentation.
Make recommendation on documentation in the nursing record of residents, as necessary.
Assist the Director of Nursing in the investigation process for suspected abuse or neglect.
Assist/support the Director of Nursing with the counseling of employees.
Listen to resident, family, or physician complaints and initiate corrective and/or report special problems to the Director of Nursing.
Assist with the hiring process as requested.
Support the Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee with the data collection and reports.
Serve as a member of the QAPI.
Complete reports and assignments accurately and adhere to established time schedules.
Render immediate assistance for all residents’ welfare as necessary.
Identify and observe safety hazards and initiate corrective action as necessary.
Work cooperatively with administration, all nursing service personnel, physicians, community agencies, residents, families, and consultants.
Establish open lines of communication between all nursing personnel and take follow-up action as necessary. Observe, interpret, and implement established Facility policies, procedures, and regulations to RN’s, LPN’s, and CNA’s.
Supervise and evaluate LPN’s, RN’s, and CNA’s conformance to Facility policies, procedures, and regulations. Assist the Director of Nursing to update or revise procedures as needed, offer input and recommendations in the formation of new nursing procedures.
Observe, follow, supervise, and evaluate the implementation of resident rights at all times.
Observe the Facility safety rules to nursing staff.
Assess resident equipment and supply needs and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing.
Participate in Facility educational programs including, but not limited to, in-service for Facility personnel. Evaluate resident and staff needs and provide the Administrator and the Director of Nursing with comprehensive recommendations concerning the educational needs of nursing assistants.
Assist with the infection control program as requested. Interview, counsel nursing staff and recommend personnel or disciplinary action to the Director of Nursing as necessary.
Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing observations of CNA, RN, and LPN performance to the Director of Nursing.
Problem solve and assist RN’s and LPN’s on floors as needed.
May assist with starting IV’s, blood draws, codes or critical residents.
Make regular resident rounds, correct and report problems to the Director of Nursing and the Administrator. Supervise central supply ordering between the charge nurses and business office in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Assist in handling emergencies pertaining to the Facility itself in the absence of the Administrator or the Director of Nursing.
Enforce the Facility policies and procedures in the absence of the Administrator or the Director of Nursing. Arbitrate complaints and disputes concerning residents, families, and personnel in the absence of the Administrator or the Director of Nursing.
Assist with inspections performed by regulatory agencies, as assigned and in the absence of the Administrator or the Director of Nursing.
Report to the Administrator or to the Director of Nursing, either in verbal or in written form, a report of all duties performed in the absence of the Administrator or the Director of Nursing.
Serve as a representative of the Facility to residents, families, and the general public.
Maintain confidentiality of resident and employee information.
Participates in committee meetings (Behavior Management; at risk) as able.
Assist in completing medication prior authorizations for residents.
Accept and complete assigned duties.
Assist in maintaining the Infection Control Manual:
- Policies and procedures for food service, linen handling, waste removal, asepsis, and environmental control;
- Standard precautions, exposure control plan and guidelines regarding personal protective equipment, isolation and precaution techniques.
- Resident care protocols, including admission policies regarding infectious diseases, screening programs, antibiotics monitoring, and annual/admission immunizations.
- Investigation and management procedures.
- Visitor guidelines (including volunteers and pets).
- QA protocols to monitor the effectiveness of infection control policies and procedures (e.g. observation of sterile technique, calculation of infection rates, wounds, Foleys, etc.)
- Reporting system for infectious disease both within the facility and to the health department as required by law including clostridium difficile tracking monthly on NHSN.
- Be able to access information as needed to assist in management of infection control (e.g. APIC, CDC, OSHA).
- Participate in employee orientation process including screening infectious diseases and immunization status.
- Responsible for employee health program - including administration of Hep. B and influenza vaccination administration, TB skin testing/TB screening, and monitoring absences for contagious disease processes.
Assist with additional duties as needed and/or required in the absence of the DON and/or Management RN's. Reporting system of COVID vaccinations for both employees and residents on NHSN.
Reporting system of COVID Infections of both residents and staff. COVID treatment, COVID PPE supply availability of both residents and staff.
COVID POC and PCR testing of residents and staff and (POC only) for visitors on NHSN.
Optional reporting of Influenza Vaccinations of both residents and staff on NHSN.
Requisition supplies, as needed.
Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
Immediately report malfunctioning or unsafe, or suspected malfunctioning or unsafe, equipment or conditions Attend and/or instruct required in-services.
Attend and/or conduct required meetings.
Other duties may be assigned.
