JOB SUMMARY
The Accountant (transmission revenues) performs accounting activities specific to data collection, analysis, billing and recording of billed revenue for transmission services across operating companies. Ensures performance of accounting activities specific to previous year's formula rate true-ups and administration in current year transmission revenue billings. Communicates with providers and users of transmission settlements information and regulatory accounting matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares, analyzes, and reconciles monthly revenue information from internal and external sources.
Maintains spreadsheets for computing network and billing loads and keeps track of historical load and changes to load.
Creates/administers revenue spreadsheets to calculate joint zone revenue distribution and recording of billed revenue within the regional transmission organizations (RTO's) in which we operate, including Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and Southwest Power Pool (SPP).
Administers accounting and billing in adherence to legacy agreements related to transmission revenues.
Maintains spreadsheets to capture previous year's formula rate true ups, calculating interest and working with Finance and Regulatory to administer in current year billings.
Participates in and communicates information to relevant stakeholder groups within MISO and SPP and other RTOs as well as transmission partners, customers, and auditors.
Participates in interdepartmental communication with many groups within the company to drive resolution for settlements/regulatory accounting/ratemaking issues.
Anticipates and responds to needs of internal and external stakeholders.
Provides support for financial reporting, including disclosure contained within 10-Q/10-K SEC filings and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) forms.
Supports special projects and ad-hoc requests as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
All levels: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
Associate level: No minimum years' experience required.
Intermediate level: Minimum two (2) years' accounting experience required; utility industry experience preferred.
Other Requirements
Understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and auditing requirements.
Working knowledge of FERC, FASB, GAAP and SEC authoritative literature.
Ability to identify and solve problems from start to finish.
Ability to perceive, analyze and interpret anomalies and variations in data.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to multitask - manage multiple tasks and priorities while meeting deadlines and ensuring proper follow up.
Ability to perform duties in a systematic, thorough, and consistent manner in a way that will support team functions within the overall organization.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently.
