Summary: The Integrated Science Program at GVSU seeks a creative and dynamic educator that complements our elementary science education program. Candidate needs a demonstrated commitment to effective teaching. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates from underrepresented groups, and from candidates who have interest and/or experience in working with diverse student and community populations.
Required Qualifications and Education:
• M.S. or Ph.D. in science education, biology and/or geology, or education with a strong background in biology and/or geology.
• Demonstrated expertise in science teacher preparation and/or K-12 science education.
• Experience in, demonstrated understanding of, or interest in social justice education and/or initiatives, and/or inclusion, diversity, and/or intercultural training.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
• Experience with Michigan Science Standards (NGSS based) and 3D science learning.
• Ability to Integrate Biology and Geology content in an inquiry classroom.
• Ability to contribute to the science education community at GVSU.
Responsibilities: Primary teaching responsibilities will be Integrated Science courses (Earth science and biology) for elementary education majors. Additional responsibilities may possibly include general education courses within a specific discipline and/or upper-level integrated science courses for Science Education majors. The candidate will actively contribute to the Integrated Science program and will be placed in home discipline science department.
Salary/Benefits: The salary is $50,000. Department/College
The Integrated Science Program consists of ten faculty with expertise in science education specific to their content discipline. Faculty are housed in and share joint appointments with the department of their science discipline. The Integrated Science Program teaches three courses in the Pedagogical Content Knowledge for Elementary Teaching (PCKET) major, courses in the Integrated Science Secondary major, courses in their discipline, and for the College of Education and Community Innovation.
