Staff Software Engineer, Stream Control Plane Some may say Cribl's greatest accomplishment thus far is having our software deployed in some of the largest organizations in the world processing up to petabytes of IT & Security data. Others may attribute that to our massive amount of goat gifs that we've harvested from the Internet. It's difficult to know for sure. Cribl Stream unlocks the value of all machine data in ways that were previously not possible by providing users a new level of observability, intelligence and control over their real-time data. We are looking for talented engineers to help build scalable, reliable, and intuitive features that empower our customers to operate Cribl Stream with confidence and agility. As a Staff Engineer working on the Stream Control Plane, you will be a technical expert working alongside skilled engineers as part of a cross functional team that delivers highly reliable and scalable software to drive customer value and satisfaction. This role is equal parts research and development. If you enjoy the challenges of building scalable, robust, and high performing distributed systems that process large data sets in real time, this position may be right for you. Responsibilities * Develop software that powers the reliable and scalable operation of Cribl Stream such as deployment, configuration, and orchestration of distributed nodes at high scale * Work with a cross functional team of engineers, product managers, and designers to translate feature requirements into technical designs and implementable code * Develop, test, and maintain robust code that effectively delivers customer value * Work closely with peers to provide feedback on design and code reviews * Take the lead on feature development while balancing the responsibilities of high quality software development and delivering value quickly to our customers * Develop automated tests and comprehensive test plans to ensure high quality code and product features that work as expected * Champion teamwork, engineering best practices, and a customer focused mindset * Provide technical and thought leadership to the products and tools that we deliver * Introduce performance and efficiency improvements across our products and processes * Mentor and coach junior engineers on the team * Engage our users by contributing to internal and external blogs that relate to the products you help develop * Help maintain and support our SaaS products including periodic participation in our 24x7 on-call rotations. Minimum Qualifications * BS in CS/EE with 7+ years of experience or MS with 4+ years * Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in building enterprise grade products for highly available distributed systems at scale * Expert knowledge of designing, building and using APIs (e.g. REST and RPC) * Expert knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems * Experience developing and using products in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP * Strong sense of ownership with a focus on high quality deliverables * Excellent verbal and written communication, able to explain complex technical topics to stakeholders with ease in remote/distributed work environments * Self driven and motivated with a demonstrated track record of learning new technologies and developing prototypes quickly * Excellent ability to maintain focus on outcomes without getting bogged down * Ability to write clean, concise, and testable code - JavaScript/TypeScript and NodeJS preferred but not required * Experience developing unit tests, integration tests, end-to-end tests using tools and frameworks such as Jest, MochaJS, CodeceptJS Bonus Points * No fear! The salary offered within the range described will be based on the individual candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
