TITLE: Teacher of the Severely Emotionally Impaired
CLASSIFICATION: Professional Staff
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of the Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possession of a Bachelor's degree or greater, with
certification in special education emotional impairment
• Possession of a valid Michigan teaching certificate
• A commitment to the SEI programs and curriculum,
i.e.: Behavioral/Physical Management system, attend
meetings/staffings after school.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The person hired in the area of teaching the severely emotionally impaired will operate
as a classroom teacher in a self contained SEI setting. The duties will include, but are
not limited to, the following:

1. Conduct a classroom program for the severely emotionally impaired which will
include the following minimum curriculum: basic academic skills, personal
adjustment/pro social skills, positive behavior supports.
2. Implement a classroom positive, behavior management system which will include
daily documentation of student’s behavior.
3. Participate in regular physical management (CPI) training sessions
4. Development and implementation of goals and objectives in accordance with
Special Education rules and regulations and student’s IEP.
5. Provide communications with local school districts to facilitate curriculum
coordination.
6. Assist in the transition for students returning to local schools.
7. Provide consultation with parents, ISD staff, local schools and administration.
8. Supervise and direct teacher assistant assigned to program.
9. Plan and conduct IEPT when appropriate.
10.Assist students in transition to mainstreamed courses.
11.Perform other duties as assigned by Director.
