The Commodity Specialist will process purchase orders, ensure suppliers on time delivery and issue
Request for Quotes (RFQ), primarily for logistics. The Commodity Specialist will also schedule, track and
update the status of shipments, and assist in analysis of route plans, load schedules and provide
recommendations for process improvements.
As a Commodity Specialist, you will:
- Process purchase orders in a timely manner and ensure supplier on time delivery
- Issue Request for Quotes (RFQ) for new product with the preferred supply base
- Participate in the negotiation and management of global strategic supplier contracts
- Execute supplier performance reviews to assess the effectiveness of the strategy and make
changes where appropriate - Schedule, track, and update the status of shipments based on customer requests
- Assist Commodity Managers in analysis of route schedules or load plans, historical activity, and
customer trends to provide recommendations for improvements - Actively participate in department continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor supply markets and trends and aggregate forecasts & global specifications
To be as considered a Commodity Specialist, you will need:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing or related field
- Ability to learn quickly, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain focus, and adapt to a
variety of challenges - Understanding of ocean, land, and air logistics business cost drivers and risk mitigation
- Demonstrated competence in negotiating skills and assessing suppliers
- Ability to solve complex problems and manage conflict
- Good Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and verbal and written communication skills
