Michigan Technological University's Department of Biological Sciences is seeking an Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor to join our growing Nursing program. Responsibilities and Essential Duties
As an instructional-track faculty member, you will play a pivotal role in educating and mentoring nursing students across the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. Your primary teaching responsibilities will include Maternal-Child Nursing, along with Nursing Fundamentals and Medical-Surgical Nursing, and others based on program needs. This role involves delivering engaging instruction, supervising students in diverse healthcare environments, developing and accessing course materials, fostering student success through advising and mentorship, collaborating with faculty and clinical partners to enhance the program, and ensuring compliance with university, accreditation, and nursing board regulations.
Responsibilities include instruction of courses, simulation, and clinical components, along with direct and indirect oversight of students in various clinical settings. This includes individualized supervision of patient care, physical assessments, nursing interventions, and medication administration.
Faculty members coordinate clinical, lab, and simulation assignments in collaboration with the faculty team and evaluate student performance in both classroom and clinical settings. Regular communication with students regarding progress, maintaining academic records, and upholding expected course outcomes are key aspects of this role.
Additional responsibilities involve participation in program assessment activities, committee assignments, and academic advising while maintaining high standards in teaching and service. Faculty are expected to advise, supervise, and mentor students, perform administrative duties, safeguard confidential data under HIPAA and FERPA regulations, and adhere to university policies and accreditation requirements.
The role also requires maintaining clinical competency, completing required training, facilitating student orientation at clinical sites, and ensuring compliance with clinical agency policies. Faculty members are expected to integrate safety practices into daily activities, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and work collegially with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field.
Unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan and a current BLS certification.
Required Experience
Minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience is required, with at least one year in Maternal Newborn or Pediatric Nursing, or as a Family Nurse Practitioner or other similar roles.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Preferred qualifications include a Doctoral degree in Nursing, Education, or a related field, experience teaching in academic, clinical, or online settings, and proficiency in instructional technology and curriculum development.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a passion for mentoring and supporting students.

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom/lab setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Work will also be performed in a medical/clinical environment. Clinical and lab environments may involve exposure to operating circumstances that require following standard and prescribed safety precautions.
