The Senior Career Data and Technology Specialist leads the office's efforts in sourcing, implementing, and maintaining data and technological resources that support and enhance the department; train and develop university faculty/staff and employers on new technologies; analyze data and construct reports to improve understanding of employer hiring trends and University needs.
Collaboration with administrative and academic units, the Enterprise and senior design programs, and other corporate engagement professionals across campus calls for a tech-savvy, data-informed, and energetic teammate. The senior specialist will possess these characteristics and will help the Michigan Tech Career Services office promote and provide digital platforms and data-driven reports that are critical for student success and university reputation.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Serve as the technology and data liaison for Career Services, championing and gathering requirements for systems (ie: Handshake, Career Fair Plus, Salesforce) that will drive forward Career Services' initiatives
Research, analyze, plan, and implement new and existing technology initiatives supporting the goals of Career Services/Michigan Tech
Analyze data, draw conclusions and provide meaningful observations into actionable knowledge for the use of Career Services/Division of Student Affairs
Provide relevant hiring data to the Career Services team to improve understanding of recruiting cycles, employment trends, and student needs
Manage the First-Destination Survey data collection process, reporting, and the development of interactive dashboards to support Career Services and collaborating with departmental and university partners to publish report
Implement, support, and maintain Customer Relationship Management systems and Artificial Intelligence tools supporting Career Services technology initiatives.
Create and deliver technology training workshops, provide on-going updates and trend data during regular staff meetings, and research new technology solutions for future consideration.
Create and present training tools/tutorials/workshops to help all university constituents understand and effectively utilize career technologies
Develop complex business intelligence reports, databases, dashboards, infographics, data analytics and other relevant technologies that support the strategic goals of Career Services.
Provide continuous improvement on data collection, processes, and analytics
Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager
Participate and actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives and strategies and apply knowledge to everyday work
Actively engage in creating a welcoming and professional work environment for staff, students, and visitors
Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Bachelor's degree in business, management of information systems, computer science, or a combination of military, education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired
Required Experience
* Five or more years of professional work experience in higher education
* Five or more years of experience with Handshake or other related enterprise-level platforms
* Three or more years of experience developing complex business, intelligence reports, databases, and dashboards
* Three or more years of professional work experience using SQL-based relational databases
* Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced features of spreadsheets to analyze, interpret, and present data
* Demonstrated experience with program assessment and evaluation
Desirable Education and/or Experience
* Experience working in a higher education department
* Experience at a STEM-related institution of higher education
