Systems Technology Group (STG) is in need of Lead Engineer – Battery / Energy Storage Systems area for our direct client in Warren, MI. The duration is long-term (1 years). Must be able to successfully complete the required Physical, Drug Testing and Background Checks prior to starting assignment.
Responsibilities:
This is an opportunity in a high growth area of emerging Global Regulatory Fuel Economy and Green House Gases (e.g., CO2) reduction requirements. Seeking highly motivated candidates that possess creativity and initiative as well as a high level of independent judgment. Selected candidate must have Electric Power experience or strong desire and transferrable skills to work on 12 and 48 V Electric Power Systems (includes various types of energy storage devices, ASIL rated power, back-up power supplies, regen systems, power generation, voltage regulation and Electric Power Management).
Candidate will be working in the following areas:
• Topology development including 12/48 Volt topologies, dual battery architectures (multiple chemistries), etc., and associated trade studies
• Engineer technical solutions for current and new programs related to energy storage systems e.g., Lead Acid Battery-based, Li-Ion Battery-based, Ultra Capacitor-based, etc.
• Integrate energy storage systems into existing and future Electrical Power architectures
• Develop technical specifications for energy storage and power switching systems based on 12/48 V systems and back-up power systems requirements
• Responsible for development, execution and evaluation of designs (including subsystems), analysis, development & testing related to energy storage systems and 12 volt energy recovery systems
• Specify and balance energy storage system requirements
• Review all In-process Electrical test plans
• Participate in root causing and resolution of field issues related to energy storage systems, and recommend appropriate course of actions
• Work with the Purchasing organization to assess energy storage systems supplier capabilities
• Support the development of future strategy and roadmaps for energy storage systems as appropriate
• Support the generation, development, implementation and evaluation of new energy storage systems as appropriate
• Stay abreast of advanced energy storage technologies and competitive products to achieve low cost, efficient energy storage systems
• Maintain state of the art knowledge of methods for electromagnetic, thermal and durability analysis and testing of energy storage systems
• Implement DFMEAs to analyze alternative solutions, enhance design, mitigate risk and develop robust solutions

• In-depth knowledge of electrical circuit design and operating principles and performance characteristics of high power switching devices and energy density capacitors for automotive applications

Additional Basic Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in performing system and component level DFMEAs
• Knowledge of energy storage design principles and system integration
• Knowledge related to power electronics for voltage regulation, cell balancing and energy storage system safety tests
• Knowledge of design for manufacturability and low-cost manufacturing of electrical devices
· Trains, develops and evaluates employees
· Develops and coordinates timing of product design programs
· Provides technical support for solving assembly plant problems
· Conducts engineering activities for VDP pilot line programs
· Conducts engineering activities for model year start of production programs
· Evaluates design proposals
· Coordinates overall engineering activities with other departments and/or divisions
· Initiates and evaluates cost studies
· Coordinates with vendors and/or customers
· Writes technical reports and proposals
· Reviews legislative and regulatory proposals or actions to determine impact on projects
Required Skills/Experience:
· Knowledge in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint – Intermediate level
· Knowledge with Lotus Notes or other email communication tool – Intermediate level
· Good interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally
· Good written and oral communication skills necessary for meetings and presentations
· Ability to work well with others, exhibiting teamwork skills
· Partners with senior management to analyze and solve issues
· Ability to multitask by handling diverse assignments concurrently
· Mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback
· Expert knowledge of design, development and test engineering, manufacturing processes, assembly operations and Central Office functions
· Position related experience - 16 years
· Relevant auto industry experience required – 7-9 years
· Past work experience required - Entry level (1 year)
· Areas of expertise include: Testing, Design, Analysis
Required Education/Training/Certifications/Licenses:
• BSEE required, MSEE with focus in Energy Storage Systems preferred
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
