Position: Consumer Loan Officer I
Employment Status: Pay Grade 8 / Non-Exempt
Reports to: Branch Leader
Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to assist Members First Credit Union to deliver on its mission, vision, and brand promise. Essential Duties

Loan authority limits: Secured up to $50,000 and Unsecured up to $10,000

Provide high-level member service with inquiries regarding loans, new accounts, and other credit union products

Review loan applications, verify credit and personal financial information, and ensure accuracy and completeness

Calculate debt ratios and assess creditworthiness

Identify member needs and recommend relevant products and services, including new checking/savings accounts

Approve qualified loan applications or escalate as per policy

Conduct member meetings to communicate denied applications and issue adverse action letters

Utilize financial coaching certification in loan consultations and recommendations

Prepare and verify accuracy of loan documents, ensuring all required documents and signatures are secured

Obtain necessary income verification and insurance documentation for collateral

Ensure payment options are discussed and properly documented

Attain State of Michigan Credit Producers License within 6 months of hire

Successfully obtain Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) designation within first year
-
Must be available to work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday–Friday, with Saturday coverage as needed, and attend after-hours meetings or training as required
Duties and Responsibilities

Assist members with loan applications and new account setup, ensuring documentation is complete and timelines are communicated

Provide quotes including Payment Protection options and educate members on available choices

Use effective Referral Sales Champion techniques to enhance the member journey

Participate in credit union campaigns, promotions, and achieve assigned performance goals

Support new member and loan onboarding through established relationship-building process

Engage in monthly developmental coaching
Other Responsibilities

Attend educational events and stay updated on state/federal loan regulations

Maintain FICEP financial counseling certification

Complete other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required

1–3 years of related experience

Working knowledge of loan processing and credit analysis

State of Michigan Credit Producers License required within 6 months of start

CCUFC certification required within 12 months of start
