Required:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Typical Degrees: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering
- Non-Typical Degrees accepted along with experience may qualify as an equal: Architectural Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Mining and Mineral processing, Nuclear Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and General Engineering. Because universities have different names for the same curriculums, any non-typical curriculum or any curriculum not listed above should be evaluated based on the content of the individual curriculum to ensure compatibility.
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally
- Acquires knowledge and develops skills in specific practice areas.
- Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
- Predictable and reliable work schedule
- Comply with all BWL policies and work rules
- Ability to respond to emergent or unexpected events within the BWL service territory
- Ability to effectively work in remote and open-office environments
- Michigan driver's license with an acceptable record
- Shall be familiar with and capable of properly applying national, state, and local codes, including but not limited to:
- American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Welding Society (AWS), International Building Code (IBC), and Michigan Building Code.
Preferred:
- Fundamentals of Engineer (FE).
- Knowledge of Office 365 applications
- Applicable utility experience or other relevant project experience
- Familiar with and capable of properly applying reference tools such as RUS Design Guide for Rural Substations.
- Experience in two or more of the following areas: Electric Transmission and Distribution systems, Electric Substations, Electric Generating Stations, Drinking Water Conditioning Plants, Steam Heating Plants, Chilled Water Production Plants, or general commercial facilities.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the working day. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office environment, including the use of stairs. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen. Must frequently communicate with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing. May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments and uneven terrain. May be required to recognize small numbers, letters, symbols, colors on prints and/or operate field instruments/equipment.
Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions and in industrial environments.
Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable).
