Position Title: Safety Officer II

Starting Salary: $12.48 – $13.79 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Position Summary
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion in students, faculty, and staff.
The Safety Officer II is responsible for patrolling Delta College’s premises, including buildings, parking areas, and learning centers, ensuring the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Officers will provide various public safety services, including vehicle unlocks, battery jump-starts, door unlocks, safety escorts, and enforcement of college policies.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Patrol college premises on foot, monitoring buildings, parking lots, and common areas.
- Provide customer service and assistance to students, staff, and guests, including:
- Vehicle unlock and battery jump services
- Door unlock requests
- Safety escorts upon request
- Maintain direct radio communication with the Public Safety dispatch desk.
- Secure buildings at the end of the shift, ensuring all faculty, staff, and students have safely left campus.
- Enforce college policies, including parking regulations and smoking policies.
- Complete daily shift logs and, when necessary, write brief incident reports.
- Work at Delta College Main Campus and Delta College Learning Centers as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- No felony convictions.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license with:
- No more than four points.
- No alcohol-related violations.
- Willingness to understand and apply college policies and practices to better serve students, campus departments, and visitors.
- Commitment to upholding Delta College’s values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Ability to wear and maintain the required uniform in accordance with Public Safety standards.
- Strong customer service skills, demonstrating professionalism in interactions with students, staff, and visitors.
- Ability to pass a background investigation before employment.
Additional Experiences Considered
- Security or law enforcement experience, such as working on a Police Reserve Unit.
- Outgoing personality with a passion for working with people.
