Summary:
To perform all kinds of welding, brazing and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment. To maintain, install and dismantle all types of pipelines, fittings, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers as required for new construction and maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Plans details of working procedure and tools and material requirements. 2. Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning and welding various metals. Repairs equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment. 3. Sets up, assembles and tacks weld parts. 4. Dismantles assemblies and cuts material to size and shape. 5. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly. 6. Develops working procedure for the job, material requirements, scaffolding and other equipment required. Calculates dimensions and bends required for piping. 7. Installs, bends, cuts, threads, and cuts off piping and shapes and fabricates pipe to particular requirements for the job. 8. Sets up and operates various bending, threading and cut off equipment.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: 1. May be assigned to dismantle or cut up obsolete equipment and assorted piping. 2. Assemble/Disassemble, Clean Spray Dryer. 3. Assemble/Disassemble, Clean Caustic Scrubbers 4. Provide safe lifting/rigging skills 5. Operate overhead cranes/hoists/chain falls 6. Operate various elevated lifts 7. Operate various lifting equipment
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Must fulfill the essential functions listed above. 2. Works with plant engineering and project engineers on evaluating, assisting, checking, installing and maintaining equipment. 3. Wears needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by applicable OSHA and Dow Corning regulations. Keep his/her work area and equipment clean at all times. Employee must work in a safe manner and follow all pertinent Dow Corning Safety Standards. 4. After first 120 days, you may be asked to support after hours with an on-call cellular phone and be available for emergency work that may require overtime on short notice. 5. Tradespersons are required to continually upgrade their skills through training both on or off site and through local colleges. 6. Understands and follows the documented Dow Corning Maintenance Workflow Diagram.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
a) Work involves varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable. b) Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing maintenance work.
Education and Experience: Applicants must possess the following minimum requirements to be considered for employment in a Skilled Trade. a) High School Diploma or G.E.D. b) Computer Literate c) At least 18 years of age d) Successfully complete Dow Corning Skilled Trades testing
In addition to the above minimum requirements, this position requires: a) Journeyman status in the Pipefitter/ Welder trade with 4 years of experience
Environment/ Working Conditions:
a) Climbing, working at times in cramped positions and lifting heavy objects. b) Work involves considerable stooping, bending and working in overhead structures and on scaffolds.
