Summary:
Apply principles of refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and electricity to analyze and correct various problems on large, low-temp, critical process equipment, comfort HVAC systems, electrical and computer room HVAC systems, and related equipment. Install, start/stop, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, overhaul, and dismantle large, low-temp, critical process equipment, comfort HVAC systems, electrical and computer room HVAC systems, and related equipment.
Primary Responsibilities:
The essential functions listed below apply to the Journeyperson and above positions. 1. Understand design and operation of assigned equipment, and how it relates to plant operations. 2. Maintain good/daily communication with plant operators on current running conditions which effect assigned equipment and operations of the plant. 3. Analyze mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant related problems on assigned equipment. Plan and make necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain production and quality on a daily basis. 4. Analyze circuits, wiring diagrams, and drawings to troubleshoot electrical problems and to install, repair, calibrate, service or replace electrical and electronic control/monitoring devices on assigned equipment. 5. Recover refrigerant when necessary, then move/remove/add refrigerant piping, controls or system components. 6. Leak check, evacuate, and charge any type of equipment, from small hermetic a/c’s to large (>7000 lbs. charge) low temperature, two-stage, screw compressor systems. 7. Understand the design and operation of plant critical clean rooms and solve problems related to temperature, humidity, and room pressurization in these areas to insure they keep their clean room status. 8. Take air flow measurements, analyze data, and make changes/repairs to get required results in critical testing labs, fume hoods, exhaust fans, and other air handling equipment. 9. Performs assigned preventative maintenance tasks and inspections and reports any abnormal findings to Trade Leader so appropriate corrective action can be taken. 10. Examines defects and analyzes causes and, where possible, takes corrective action. 11. Notifies Trade Leader of recurring equipment malfunctions and corrective action taken, and of quality problems or supplies needed. 12. Performs varied mechanical duties such as dismantling, moving, repairing and installing or repairing facility equipment. 13. Uses hoists, and trolleys to move machinery. Frequently works with electrician, instrumentation, Millwright, or pipefitter/welder to complete dismantling or installation jobs. 14. Notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous systems and takes corrective action. 15. Assists in the training of new department personnel. 16. Work involves the safe and proper handling and potential exposure to hazardous materials. RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training is required for operators working with and packaging hazardous waste. RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training is required within 90 days of beginning job and before working alone and annual refresher training is required each 12 months thereafter. Operators are responsible for properly handling RCRA Hazardous Waste and maintaining the satellite RCRA Hazardous Waste Storage areas compliant to all environmental regulations.
