GENERAL SUMMARY: As a Seasonal Field Technician (day shift), tasks will be performed as assigned by Bay County Mosquito Control supervisory staff relating to the surveillance and control of mosquitoes in Bay County. Field Technicians (day shift) will conduct control of mosquito larvae by inspecting and treating potential breeding sites throughout Bay County; the technician may at times be asked to perform duties to control adult mosquitoes. Technicians will also perform public outreach by educating residents on controlling mosquitoes. A large portion of treatment consists of driving, working outdoors on uneven terrain, lifting up to 50 pounds, and climbing in and out of truck beds, requiring good physical condition. Hours will vary during the treatment season of May 1 to September 30; however, work shift is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and may include weekends and overtime. Ability to work a flexible schedule (days and some nights) required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Inspect and apply insecticides to mosquito breeding sites in accordance with federal and state regulations, including roadside ditches, catch basins, sewage lagoons, flooded woodlots, etc.
- Operate handheld and truck-mounted equipment for the control of larval and adult mosquitoes.
- Maintain accurate records of all insecticide applications and other work performed.
- Safely operate and maintain vehicles, equipment, buildings, and grounds.
- Interact with and educate the public in a polite, courteous manner.
- Consistent and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
