DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A deep understanding of imaging technologies, (lighting, optics, image processing,) is essential, along with the ability to architect and code computer programs. The job holder should also be familiar with manufacturing processes, such as casting, molding, and machining, and have good awareness of
quality control and inspection procedures. Knowledge of industrial automation control technology such as robotics and PLC's is highly advantageous, along with a solid grounding in math and statistics.
Work with Operations, Quality and Product Engineering to understand current problems, goals, and customer requirements (may require travel to remote locations.)
Conceive solutions in a timely manner using appropriate experimental techniques, constructing "proof-of-concept" demonstrations to show how these could be implemented.
Work with other groups, both inside Federal-Mogul and external, to "productionize' chosen solutions.
Support Operations in implementing newly developed technology into production.
Seek out innovative ways in which advanced sensor and control technology may be used to reduce waste, improve quality and cut costs in manufacturing operations.
Produce computer programs in VB, C or NI LabVIEW as appropriate to implement inspection algorthims.
Capable of providing support as requested by supervisor.
Develop inspection solutions using machine vision.
Advise on selection and purchase of machine vision systems and technology.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in Engineering required; Masters degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or a Computer Science discipline
strongly preferred.
"Certified Vision professional" (CVP) preferred.
Minimum five years developing and implementing machine vision systems for part inspection and process control.
Minimum three years experience in a high volume, discrete product manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated use of problem-solving skills for timely resolution of manufacturing and/or quality problems.
Developed and implemented software for automation and/or inspection.
Experience with ultrasound inspection methods.
Ability to use CAD software (AutoCAD or ProE.)
