Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Technical Services Coordinator, the Building Technician is responsible for providing on-site technology support within assigned school buildings. This includes managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software, assisting with network connectivity, and supporting staff and students in the effective use of technology.
Responsibilities:
Maintain the following infrastructure and related network systems:
- Serve as a first-line resource for technology (hardware, software, and on-line resources) used throughout the building(s); identify areas to apply technology, advise of available technology, and encourage and assist in using technology
- Assist Instructional Coach(es) with individual and group training sessions for staff and serve as a resource for training students in the use of computers and software
- Maintain computer hardware by diagnosing, repairing, and/or replacing essential computer components and associated peripherals, either on site or by transporting equipment and/or parts for repair
- Diagnose problems with computer software programs within assigned building(s), updating software to fix bugs and apply patches if needed
- Install and set up computer peripherals, including (but not limited to) printers, scanners, projectors, etc.
- Install and configure staff computers, including (but not limited to) printers, shortcuts, and email account settings
- Assist in developing, testing, documenting, and deploying system images
- Assist in support of the communication systems deployed within assigned building(s)
- Assist with asset tracking processes, including yearly inventory
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or building administrator(s)
- Regular and consistent attendance
- Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent in technical training and field experience.
- Diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to relate/communicate well with all authority levels, skill levels, and personality types.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to switch between multiple projects quickly and self-prioritize tasks involved
- A+ certification or commit to earning within 6 months of hire date.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff and the public.
- Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
- Proficient computer and document skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Google Workspace experience
- Chromebook Service and Repair experience
