Summary of Duties:
The Early Childhood Aide position assists in the delivery of pre-school programs by communicating concerns to the supervising teacher and performing a variety of assigned duties. Based on the activities assigned, employees may work with children in the classroom, may prepare and serve food, may ride the bus assuring safety procedures are followed, and may be responsible for the general cleaning of classrooms and rest rooms.

Classroom Aide Specific Duties:
- Assist teacher in implementing developmental experiences for children, including activities in language, intellectual, social-emotional and physical development; as well as skill development in health and safety;
- Assist the teacher in managing the classroom to assure a safe, healthy and positive atmosphere for children;
- Observe and identify needs of classroom children without constant direction and supervision;
- Assist in toileting children and perform diapering procedures when necessary;
- Perform necessary personal care procedures as directed and trained;
- Assist in helping children in and out of vehicle restraint systems;
- Physically interact with children outdoors and indoors to include floor-time in a safe and appropriate manner;
- Complete and submit program paperwork accurately and promptly as assigned;

Special Services Aide Duties:
- Manage the care and safety of one or more individual children as assigned; carrying out tasks outlined to support the child/ren as developed by the local team;
- Participate in training as needed to meet the individual needs of assigned child/children;
- Perform other Classroom Aide duties as directed;

Lunch Aide Specific Duties:
- Prepare food to be served in family style format;
- Help classroom staff at lunch tables as an active participant with children;
- Follow sanitary practices in handling food according to licensing standards;
- Pick up and deliver food as needed;
- Conduct inventory if necessary;
- Clean up as needed;
- May have to carry food carriers, which may be empty or full of food, into and out of
Bus Aide Specific Duties:
- Accompany the bus driver on all regularly scheduled bus runs, acting as second adult on vehicle;
- Identify all children riding the bus by name; assuring children are only released to persons listed on the emergency card;
- Be familiar with bus route to assist driver as necessary;
- Record amount of time children spend on the bus ride;
- Maintain attendance of bus riders and record when they enter and exit the bus;
- Use positive methods of behavior management to maintain order on the bus;
- Maintain the safety of the vehicle occupants at all times;
- Make certain children are secure in child safety restraints;
- Assist children from home/school into bus and from bus to home/school;
- Make certain parent or guardian is home before leaving child; using a hand-to-hand exchange at the bus;
- Assist children under age of 6 into and out of vehicle;
- Assist bus driver or conduct walk through bus after each run to assure all children have exited the bus;
- Ensure that no child is ever left unattended on the bus;
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR
Janitorial Specific Duties:
- General cleaning, sanitizing, vacuuming and light maintenance;

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and 1 year experience in caring for young children preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
There are no certifications required for Lunch Aides or Janitorial Aides, Classroom Aides or Special Needs Aides. Bus Aides must have current First Aid and CPR Certifications or be able to obtain the certifications within the first year of employment and maintain renewal thereafter.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must be able to tell and record time from a clock.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions involving few concrete variables in standardized situations.
