Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Safety Supervisor, which will cover all Michigan Sugar facilities.
Job Summary
The Safety Supervisor is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing employee safety at work. This individual with work closely with the Packaging & Warehouse and Agriculture departments to ensure compliance with OSHA guidelines, develop training content, safety policies and procedures and conduct regular safety inspections.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assists Director of Safety and Facility Safety Supervisors with implementing safety programs and acts as the site safety resource for the Warehouse and Agriculture departments, including all associated employees.
- Assists site management in the analysis of accident reports and the evaluation of injuries to identify the root cause for mitigation measures.
- Works with site management to implement action plans for identified accident mitigation measures.
- Ensures timely completion of employee safety training through a thorough and well-planned annual training schedule.
- Administers required site safety training including new hire orientation.
- Performs and documents site safety inspections and works with site management to mitigate any safety findings in a timely manner. Evaluates, assesses, and recommends updates to safety policies and procedures, as needed, to the Director of Safety.
- Acts as an integral member of site safety committees providing support for safety related questions.
- Performs quarterly audits of site permits including, but not limited to, Confined Space and Lock Out Tag Out.
- Works with site management to mitigate hazards identified through the Safety Gram program in a timely manner.

- Safety Grams
- Powered Industrial Truck
- Safety boot and safety glasses
- Annual Respirator fit testing and audiometric testing
- Chemical of Interest (CFATS) Homeland Security
- LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out)
- Permit Required Confined Space
- Fall Protection
- Aerial Lift
- Hazard Communication
- Safety Data Sheets
- JSA (Job Safety Analysis)
- Job Observations
- Safety Alerts
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as directed.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of General Industry/Construction experience having had significant safety related responsibilities. A bachelor’s degree in a related field will be considered as fulfilling a portion of the experience requirement.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, as well as identifying, documenting, and managing production equipment hazards.
- Demonstrated excellence in oral communication.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other computer software programs such as, but not limited to Adobe and ADP.
