The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Michigan Medical School is seeking a biostatistician to serve as a key member of their staff supporting the statistical needs of the Department's faculty and trainees. The primary research interests of the faculty to whom the biostatistician will report include the full breadth of the research spectrum including clinical epidemiological, health services, basic and translational vision sciences.
- Support trainees in completing research projects ranging from basic to clinical, translational and health services related research in vision and ophthalmology
- Support investigators in new or ongoing research projects aiming to generate pilot data to apply for external grant funding
- Advise on the use of statistical software and appropriate statistical methodology for study design and grant proposal preparation
- Act as the primary statistical consultant/statistician on federally funded grants
- Act as the primary statistician/data manager for departmental quality initiatives
- Bachelor's degree
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively.
- Strong background/interest in research design and statistical computing.
- Experience performing analyses using large databases.
- Ability to design and execute statistical models including but not limited to multivariable logistic, linear, and Cox regression.
- Able to work well as part of a research team.
- Ability to communicate statistical concepts and results both orally and through written manuscripts.
STATISTICIAN SENIOR:
- At least 3 years of experience in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field.
- Experience with statistical consulting.
STATISTICIAN INTERMEDIATE:
- At least 1 year of experience in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field.
- Bachelor degree in statistics, epidemiology or related field
- 1-3 years of professional experience or Master's degree in statistics
- Work experience with R, SAS or STATA
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively in both written and oral form
- Willingness to work with investigators and trainees throughout the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences
- Willingness to collaborate with other statisticians in the department
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
