Position Overview
- Plans schedules, manages and follows the design on projects assigned.
- Develops new product as well as existing products engineering deliverables.
- Evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability while working with other members of the engineering staff to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the mechanical engineering field as it relates to assembly and test systems.
- Works under immediate supervision, relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Occasionally will be assigned and expected to manage Designer/s to assist with large project.
Responsibilities
- Manage, follow-up, and perform all phases of design on projects assigned in accordance with Engineering Department Procedures.
- Provide appropriate support to Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production Control Department to assure all projects will achieve timing and budgets.
- Always have an up to date understanding of timing and budgeted hours for assigned projects.
- Perform comparative analysis of designs and drawings, to ensure conformances to company and customer standards specifications, and good engineering practices.
- Perform and/or evaluate simulations (FEA, Robot, etc.) to enhance design.
- Advanced understanding and utilization of GD&T.
- Demonstrate ability to produce test and/or assembly machine layouts using NX, SW, AutoCAD or similar CAE software.
- Perform field service/checks as required on equipment (domestic).
- Generate machine and/or system detailed sequence of operation with cycle times and cylinder sizes, motor sizes, etc.
- Oversee and mentor designers assigned to assist with large design projects.
- Collaborate with all other departments and engineering groups as required to complete assigned projects.
- Follow design and CAD guidelines with all assigned projects.
- Maintain/follow clean data management practices with all assigned projects.
- Participate in reviews of assigned projects.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years' experience in mechanical design relating to the automotive powertrain industry tooling and/or system design.
- Recent and proficient experience preparing designs using NX.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Mechanical Design Technology, Engineering, or design related field.
- 5+ years of experience in designing machine tool equipment/systems for Powertrain, Assembly, and Test.
- Failure Mode Effect Analysis experience.
- Experience with Autodesk, PLM Team Center, Visio, and/or JIRA.
