FLSA: Exempt Temporary/Continuing: Continuing Part-Time/Full-Time: Full-Time Union Group: Ferris Faculty Association (MEA-NEA) Term of Position: 9 Month At Will/Just Cause: Just Cause Summary of Position: • The Mathematics Department seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor to teach math courses, principally lower division and developmental math courses, contribute to developmental math education, contribute to curriculum development and instructional strategies that improve the quality of developmental math education, participate in departmental and University initiatives that focus on retention, and pursue related professional development and scholarly activity. • Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. • The start date of this position will be August 2025. Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: • PhD in Mathematics OR PhD in Mathematics Education with master's equivalent background in mathematics Required Work Experience: • Demonstrated experience in working with developmental or lower division mathematics students. • Prior teaching experience. • Evidence of scholarly potential related to the study of academic dispositions, cognition, instruction, or curriculum development involving developmental and lower division mathematics. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Teach math courses, including developmental and lower division courses. • Contribute to developmental mathematics initiatives. • Conduct scholarly activity related to the teaching and learning of developmental mathematics. • Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. • Participate in initiatives that focus on retention. • Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). • Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment. • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives. • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
