The Machinist I position will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. The role may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The Machinist I will check quality of work against blueprints and specifications. This is a 1st shift position located in Farmington, MI.
Responsibilities:
- Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts.
- Review electronic or written blueprints for specifications and check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.
- Calculate where to cut or bore.
- Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials.
- Determine how fast or slow workpiece is fed into machine and how much material to remove.
- Select tools and materials for the job. Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
- Mark the workpiece to show where cuts should be made. Position workpiece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
- Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
- Ensure work-piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.
- Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
